Semi-Flow Through System

The agriculture company Hexahedron in Congo DRC was interested in intensive African catfish culture. On the destined location the infrastructure is poor and electricity unavailable. Therefor a semi flow through technique for the grow out was applied, based on successful trials we performed in Kenya.

Fresh water from nearby river

A river passing the farm was partly dammed upstream, allowing water to flow to the grow out facility by gravity. The fish tanks are placed in a greenhouse in order to provide an optimal temperature for the African catfish, even during colder nights. The discharge water of the grow out flows to a man-made swamp for removal of the solids, before either being used for irrigating crops in the farm or to return to the river.
